Catch up on all there is to know about this historic city with a tour of the Legislative Assembly and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Afterwards, take in all the legends and history on a tour of Old Town.

In the NWT, monsters are real. A few feet below the surface of Great Slave Lake, big and bountiful fish ply our waters all year long, hungry for your hook. Take a tour of the lake with fishing pros that will guide you along the way. Maybe your line will pull in the big one.

Aurora Viewing From A Cozy Lake Cabin

First, a faint glow. Is that a cloud or – ? The colour freshens, from dim green to lime. It begins to wriggle, then billow. It reaches across the sky, subdivides, splits again. Strips of red erupt, and the heavens are on fire. Ooooh! You realize you're gasping audibly, squealing, cooing. Don't be embarrassed. That's just what happens when you watch the Northern Lights. Enjoy this life changing experience with the comforts of cozy cabins with viewing decks, hot refreshments and fresh bannock.


DAY 2

Kennel Tour And Dog Mushing On... Wheels?

AFTERNOON

That's right; dogsledding is a year-round adventure in the North. Dogsled racers harness their huskies and go for a spin down the back roads and trails of Yellowknife to ensure their team is ready for winter. Experience this world-class dry land training as well as a full tour of the kennel where you'll discuss the heritage of dog mushing and racing in the North.

AURORA BOAT CRUISE

Take in the spectacular Aurora Borealis from both water and land. Take a comfortable cruise to a secluded site in Grace Lake where you can enjoy coffee, tea, soup and bannock. This tour is the perfect balance between rugged and pampered and the sleep deprivation will be worth it.


DAY 3

Memories Etched In Glass

Itinerary: Day 3

AFTERNOON

Try your hand at making your own souvenir. Head down to Old Town Glassworks where you'll create a unique piece of Northern art on glass in the style and colour of your choice. This 2-hour workshop includes all the material, tools and instruction you'll need. Just bring your creativity!

EVENING

A short drive along the Ingraham Trail, away from the big city lights, you'll find yourself at the famous Aurora Village. They are celebrated for their outstanding facilities that make sure you have the best in comfort and a world class Aurora experience. Aurora Village features spacious, comfortable viewing areas with no obstructions, and if you're looking to take a break, enjoy comfortable lounging in traditional tipis.


DAY 4

A Quick Shopping Spree Before Your Flight

AFTERNOON

Touring Yellowknife's many art galleries and gift shops is a great way to spend the afternoon. Marvel at the Inuit soapstone carvings, moosehide mocassins, luxurious furs and so much more. Drop by the NWT Diamond Centre where you can learn about the North's prominent industry of turning rough stone into beautiful diamonds. You can even purchase diamonds that have been mined, cut and polished in the NWT.

Flight To The Town Of Fort Simpson

Make the quick 1-hour flight from Yellowknife to Fort Simpson with the northern owned and operated airline, Air Tindi.


DAY 5

Flightseeing Within Nahanni National Park Reserve

Itinerary: Day 5

MORNING

Fly-in day tour: 6-8 hours, 3 stops

This journey starts at the Virginia Falls tour, but continues further into the mountains. After experiencing the magnificence of Virginia Falls, you will fly to Glacier Lake where you will see the magnificent Cirque of the Unclimbables, a group of several cirques with 9000 ft peaks that drain through Fairy Meadow, an idyllic alpine garden. A brief stop at GlacierLake allows you time to take in the spectacular view of Mount Harrison Smith – one of the highest mountains in the Ragged Range. Continuing the tour over Rabbit Kettle Lake, you will see the Tufa Mounds. A stop at Little Doctor Lake and the Nahanni Mountain Lodge to relax and enjoy the scenery completes the tour as you head back to Fort Simpson.

Be sure to visit Fort Simpson's newest attraction, the world's tallest wooden teepee, rising up from the Edhaa National Historic Site. It's a great spot to take in the Aurora and the sounds of the Mackenzie River.

DAY 6

Hit The Links Or Tour The Town

Itinerary: Day 6

MORNING

Within easy walking distance of downtown Fort Simpson, the Seven Spruce Golf Course features rolling, grassy fairways and a laid-back vibe. Rent clubs and tackle the sun-soaked nine-hole course or put up your feet in the clubhouse for a relaxing morning.

If golfing isn't your style, don't worry! For a mix of nature, culture, adventure and relaxation, it's hard to beat the hub of the Dehcho Region. Get oriented at the excellent Visitor Information Centre at the entrance of town, with a wealth of exhibits, maps, brochures, videos and friendly staff. Tour the Mackenzie riverfront – the famed Edhaa National Historic Site, the cabin of legendary goldseeker Albert Faille, and structures that showcase the Metis and fur-trade history of the town, including McPherson House, Lafferty House and the Hudson Bay Company shed.

Flight Back To The Capital

AFTERNOON

Say farewell to Fort Simpson and board the plane with a flight path back to Yellowknife.

You can never get enough of the phenomenal Northern Lights. Squeeze in one last lightshow at Aurora Station where you can marvel at the dancing heavens on the large sky deck.
