Yellowknife is booming with tourists from all over the world, and in the previous years there seemed to be issues with hotel capacity. The largest hotel in the Northwest Territories, The Explorer Hotel with 187 rooms currently is expanding to add 72 more rooms in a seven story addition. Once complete the Explorer Hotel will have a total of 259 rooms as well as an expanded banquet and conference facility. Construction is well underway currently with a scheduled completion date of September 2018, right in time for Fall Aurora viewing season.
The Chateau Nova hotel which opened in September 2016 has 141 available for visitors and shortly will be able to accommodate more. There are 72 long term suites being developed currently in a separate wing of the Chateau Nova with still direct access to the hotel’s fitness centre, sauna, steam rooms and restaurant. These long term suites are projected to open for bookings in the Spring of 2018 boosting the number of available rooms at the Chateau Nova to 213. In the meantime you can enjoy the special amenities the hotel provides like in room dining, winter boot warmers (for those late night Aurora viewers) and the only steam room and sauna available in Yellowknife.
